The Kimberley Brand: A journey from a flip-over camper to the largest manufacturer with the widest range of products for travel and camping in Recreational Vehicles to out-of-the-way places. "Our Mission is to maximize the enjoyment, minimize the hassle!"

We have products you can trust, service you can trust, good on-line technical advice and "hands-on" specialist Distributors Nationally with personal product knowledge.

Kimberley Kamper in Motion.jpgKimberley Kampers started building “flip over” hard-floor camper trailers in 1996 in Ballina. They were initially sold at camping shows by the factory; adding Distributors in every state over time. By 2002, the Brand had become the established market leader in the “off road” camper trailer market with a reputation for ruggedness, high quality build and attention to detail in the canvas design. One of the unique market segments that Kimberley dominated was the use of a boat loader for an aluminium “tinnie”.

In 2003, the Engineering & Design department was upgraded with digital 3D design tools and professional design staff. This allowed Kimberley to develop an internationally patented folding off-road Karavan product with a monocoque Fibreglass canopy. Combined with the latest technology in vacuum toilets, diesel ceramic cooktops, and stainless steel heat exchangers for hot water, this product is way ahead of anything similar in the market. Separately, the factory was transformed to a lean Manufacturing process using Kanbans and Kaizen flow. Each year, Models were upgraded using a structured development process with improvements from customers, dealers & employees that is now standardised. Revenue grew four fold in 6 years.

After winning several awards in 2009 including the Telstra Medium Business Award & the AMP Innovation Award, the company looked for a new horizon. Getting to “out of the way places” generally involves driving long distances and/or staying in places with no permanent power. Vehicles are more compact & yet campers would like to take more gear! Kimberley already has a design principle of “small when travelling, BIG when camping” so it was a natural step to develop a wider range of products for “out of the way places” that are clean, lean & green. By Lean we mean “lightest weight”!

Flexible Panel.jpgKimberley started with a new super-lightweight roof top tent product that could be carried even on a Mini. Chinese made product dominates this market segment so the challenge of developing a superior design and matching customers’ future  needs at an acceptable cost was a good test. The product is called MYCUBE and reached 10 minutes of fame when the “Queensland Cyclone Chaser” was being interviewed on National TV with a MYCUBE prominently fitted to his 4WD!
The MYCUBE is tough and durable yet super lightweight and comfortable.

Master Galley KitchenKimberley then started on a range of sustainable camping products by expanding on product that had already been used in the Kamper or Karavan range. With more than 100 years of collective design and engineering experience, the Team gave each new product the same attention to detail that the Kampers are renowned for. The range includes 3 types of Solar technologies, 3 types of Fuel Cells, LED camping lights, rechargeable LED torches, BioDiesel Portable Hot Water, Super lightweight Hypalon Alloy RIBs, Electric outboards, Lithium Batteries, eutectic portable refrigerators, and several other accessories.

The Kimberley claim for these products is “Clean, Lean and Green!” For example, the new KHA-RIB allows hundreds of campers/ K Rib Cut Out.jpgcaravaners to carry a boat with less roof windage and therefore lower fuel costs plus ease of handling. Being lighter, a smaller and lighter outboard will do the job! They can even combine it with a folding electric outboard!

All of Kimberley’s products are popular with the affluent baby boomers, comfortable family travellers and adventurers who are in search of authentic travel experiences to balance this ever increasing
digital world.

Look under the hood at Kimberley and you will see more than just product innovation & quality:
Customers have to trust Kimberley Products to get the right experience in out of the way places.

Guiding Customers by building trust

Customers start with researching products and matching this to their needs. We help this process with in-depth technical information and customer assistance. There are more than 40,000 visitors to all the websites every month.

All pricing, specifications and technical information is on-line - this builds trust.

Kimberley includes a “Klean Kampsite” bag with all offroad camper trailers and offroad caravans it ships. Customers can purchase extra bags HERE. Over 2,000 bags have been despatched with the request to “leave campsites cleaner than you found it!” If each Kimberley Klean Kampsite bag collects an extra 20 kgs of rubbish a year, it represents 40 tonnes of rubbish removal to keep “out of the way places” pristine.

There is a privacy policy for customer contact yet customers are assured of professional contact management as all activities start an electronic customer file which is maintained all the way through purchase, warranty and re-sale.

Specific Unit Warranty is electronic and can be accessed online by customers on any web interface and at time.

Trust in the Kimberley National Dealer Network

Customers get equal service in every State with our National coverage. It is successful for one strong reason: Kimberley Dealers understand the market and our products and give good advice to customers. They build trust with their customers! Giving the right advice is crucial and backing that up with after-sales service is where our Dealer network is (now) the strongest. Dealer training is done with factory visits and specific on-line training videos.

Dealers offer customers a routine inspection and after-sales service advice backed by the factory’s long hours emergency telephone support and parts service. There are over 20 service locations around Australia.

Trust in the product: The importance of a standardized Design and Manufacturing Process for customers:

To build products that can be trusted, every feature needs to be both the right design with field feedback and testing. This can never be done building “one off” custom designs. Instead, we build up modules called “kanbans” and each kanban is a standardized part. Through a combination of these kanbans (there are 280+) we build a “unique” product at the last point of assembly. We constantly update the design of Models at least annually by changing or adding new features at the “Kanban” level. This makes changes manageable.

For Quality control and speed of implementing changes, we build 90% in house and have developed a wide range of competencies with the latest technology. We have one of the most advanced robotic multi-axis fabric/material cutting and marking machines. We use work-cells that produce a set of standard “Kanbans” in the Manufacturing process that are then assembled with selected parts. This process of the “supply chain” of parts and Kanbans is our most critical process.

There are Dual-Screen Kiosks on the shop floor that show staff the manufacturing schedule, configuration and quality sheets applicable to each production slot. The manufacturing system operates on an international ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics) which is integrated with the Solid Works 3D design and the web based Customer Relationship Management system.

Trust in “lowest cost of Ownership”

Bruce Loxton profile head.jpgWe believe that good product design creates as much value for customers in re-sale value as it does in functionality and purchase price.
The combination is “lowest cost of ownership” and we strive to achieve this goal today and for tomorrow. We are proud of this achievement,
but never satisfied with our products as we welcome Employee, Dealer and Customer involvement to continuously improve.
